Accreditation

Accredited CAA programs

25 of the 30 anesthesiologist assistant programs we track hold full accreditation. The rest are at earlier stages — on a Letter of Review, not yet accredited, or announced but not yet enrolling. That distinction is worth more than any ranking: accreditation status governs whether your degree lets you sit for certification, so it belongs at the top of your shortlist criteria, not the bottom.

Planned — not yet enrolling

Announced but not admitting students. Useful to know about for future cycles; not something you can apply to now.

Letter of Review

A pre-accreditation step. The program has been reviewed but is not yet accredited — students who enrol are betting on it completing the process before they graduate.

Not yet accredited

Operating or preparing to operate without full accreditation. Ask directly what happens to your certification eligibility if accreditation is not granted on the expected timeline.

Accredited CAA programs — FAQ

How many accredited CAA programs are there?

25 of the 30 programs we track are fully accredited, spread across 15 states. The field is small and growing — several newer programs are at earlier accreditation stages, which is why the count you see quoted elsewhere varies.

Why does CAA program accreditation matter?

Because it governs certification. Graduating from a program that is not appropriately accredited can leave you unable to sit for the certifying examination, which is the whole point of the degree. It is the one criterion where the downside is total rather than incremental, so check it before cost, location, or length.

Should I apply to a program that isn't fully accredited yet?

It can be reasonable, but go in with your eyes open. Ask the program in writing where it is in the process, what the expected timeline is, and specifically what happens to your certification eligibility if accreditation is delayed or denied. A confident program will answer plainly.
